Anxiety seems to affect us all either by experiencing it or knowing someone that is experiencing it. One of the challenges with anxiety is that it can come at any time, without an invitation and doesn’t require a R.S.V.P.
I have struggled with anxiety and depression for almost 20 years. I have been on several medications, seen many therapists and was even hospitalized.
In this blog post we will learn to set our intentions and use mantras to relax the mind and focus by:
- Realigning the Body and Mind with Breath Work
- Introduction of Mantra Mediation with 5 Mantras
- Living with Intentions
- Service, Finding Your Higher Purpose
- Managing Expectations
Whether you are beginning the journey to meditation and a busy anxious mama trying to find answers on relieving anxiety or already been introduced to meditation these mantras will ease the mind and empower the soul.
How I Cured Anxiety With Meditation With These 5 Mantras
I had my first panic attack after the birth of my daughter and have had depression and anxiety for many years following .This left me unable to bond with my first child and has affected my marriage, jobs and friendships. I stayed home, afraid to go out and the medications that were prescribed made me feel worse.
When I went to a mental hospital for my depression, I realized that enough was enough. Even when on medication you are only putting a band aid on the issue. I knew that finding the root of my depression and anxiety was the only real way to make it better and live the life I deserve.
I read more books than I could count and realized a holistic method was the answer for me and that depression lived in the soul and that anxiety symptoms were the result of burying that depression. From there I found the secret sauce to beating anxiety without medication. You can learn more about that in my blog, How to go From a Depressed, Anxious Mom to a Relaxed, Peaceful Mom in Just 4 Steps Without Medication!!
I believe that depression lives in the soul and the way to communicate with your soul is meditation. Meditation can take practice; you may not feel relaxed the first couple of times but with the information I share in this blog post we will get you there!
Step 1 Realign the Body and Mind with Breath Work
Breath work is very important in meditation. This will calm and relax you and allow you to focus which you will need when practicing Mantra Meditation because you will be repeating a phrase or word multiple times to bring you in a deeper presence and awareness.
A simple breathing exercise is as follows:
- Inhale slowly to the count of 4
- Hold for a count of 4
- Exhale slowly to the count of 4
- Repeat at least 3 times or until you feel centered.
Deep breathing activates the part of the nervous system called the vagus nerve which stimulates the relaxation response throughout our bodies.
In addition to holistic mediation and breath work there was a program that changed everything for me without medication.

Step 2 Introduction of Mantra Mediation with 5 Mantras
Mantra is a word, sound, syllable or phrase that is repeated over and over during meditation. The purpose is to bring you to a deeper presence and awareness. Mantras are used to help focus you and prevent your mind from wandering and when using specific mantras, they soothe the senses and facilitate greater mindfulness. Other benefits are:
- Open and balance your chakras
- Concentrate your energy
- Boost self-knowledge
- Develop your psychic awareness
- Help pave the way for emotional healing
Here are the 5 mantras I use while meditating that have served me well in healing from depression.
- I am bliss
- This moment is perfect, whole, and complete
- Recharge, renew, then respond
- I will follow my bliss
- I have no expectation of any result
Repeating these mantras in a chant while meditating creates increased focused, allowing the peacefulness one looks for while meditating.
Step 3 Living with Intentions
While meditating try setting your intention. This is different than setting a wishful manifestation. Living your intention means having it permeate your behavior. Focus on the process and not the outcome.
Life is more meaningful when we define ourselves by our intentions rather than our achievements. This is why when we are depressed, we feel stuck as if we are living in the past. When we live with intention, we sustain a sense of purpose and meaning that isn’t tied to what we accomplish but who we are.
Step 4 Service, Finding Your Higher Purpose
Service makes our lives better in many ways and helping others can also help ourselves. Through volunteering I have been able to work through my depression because service does 4 things.
- Service connects us. When you serve it’s hard to be lonely.
- Service amplifies Gratitude. Service helps you see what you have, especially when you see what other people do not.
- Service Increases Compassion. When you serve, you grow and develop empathy for others.
- Service Builds Self- Esteem Helping others gives you a sense of purpose and meaning, this is important for mamas because we can feel that home making and raising kids is our only purpose, contributing to depression.
When you are a busy mama it’s hard to think of having any extra time, with managing the home, work, friends or the gym. I encourage you to find something that you are passionate about and give back to that cause. It is a crucial part of saying goodbye to anxiety for good and I talk more about this in , How to Heal Yourself By Helping Others, 4 Ways to Give Back When you Want to Give Up
Step 5 Managing Expectations
While you are on the journey to healing and meditating it is important to be realistic. It can take time when you first begin to meditate to feel the bliss that is shown in pictures on Pinterest. If you have anxiety and depression the path to healing can have curves and valleys that aren’t on a map. For additional support with anxiety, I used a 3-step process that eliminated my panic attacks.
