If you have read some of my blogs, you may know that I am a recovering anxiety ridden mama. I suffered from anxiety and depression for 20 years and medication did not work for me.
I found a holistic approach and supportive community that helped with so much more than anxiety and depression. I feel like it is my duty as a decent human being to share this with others that suffer the way I did.
In this post I will introduce you to EFT Tapping and the 4 methods that got rid of my anxiety for good. In this post we will learn:
- Introduction to EFT Tapping
- EFT Tapping in 5 Steps
- Consistent Self Care Practice
- World Tapping Circle Healing for Humanity
EFT tapping has been used to effectively treat war veterans and active military with PTSD. I know everyone’s depression and trauma are different, but I add this information to show that EFT is a potent self-healing/relaxation technique that combines Chinese medicine, Western psychology, neurolinguistic programming, breath work and affirmations. Tapping turns on neuropeptides in your brain which boost mood, increase immunity, and enhance mental cognition. EFT rewires your brain and helps your body recover in record time from most anything, giving you more inner strength and resiliency every time you do it.
Step 1 Introduction to EFT Tapping
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. Like acupuncture, EFT focuses on the meridian points to restore balance in your body’s energy. Based on Chinese medicine an imbalance in these points can influence disease or anxiety and depression.
EFT rewires your brain and helps your body recover in record time from most anything, giving you more inner strength and resiliency every time you do it. Tapping makes life flow by ending cycles of drama, trauma, and abuse. It allows you to honor your feelings, defrost numbness, soothe anxiety, and prevent knee-jerk reactions. It gives you the ability to process your feelings quickly, safely, and completely — all with compassion.
Step 2 EFT Tapping in 5 Steps
A simple flow can be divided into 5 steps:
- Identify the Issue-In order for this technique to be effective, you must first recognize the issue you have. If you do not know the exact issue (which is completely okay) just think of how you want to feel. Relaxed, patient, calm etc.) A great tool to find yourself and communicate with your depression is through meditating. This blog 5 Mantras For Modern Day Meditation. Meditation Methods for the Busy Mama To Cure Anxiety For Good! is a great introduction to meditation.
- Evaluate the Initial Intensity-After you identify the problem area set a benchmark level of intensity. Scale this for 0-10 with 10 being the most difficult. The scale assesses the emotional or physical pain and discomfort you feel from the focal issue.
- The Setup- Prior to Tapping you need to establish a phrase that explains what you are trying to address, perhaps a mantra which you can find a list in my blog referenced above. This phrase will be focused on through your flow.
- EFT Tapping Sequence-The EFT tapping sequence is the methodic tapping on the ends of 9 meridian points. Please reference the image below
Begin by tapping the side of the hand point while simultaneously reciting your setup phrase three times. Then tap each following point seven times moving down the body. After tapping the underarm point, finish the sequence at the top of the head point.
- Test the Final Intensity – At the end of the sequence, rate your intensity level on a scale from 0-10. Compare your results with your initial intensity level.
Step 3 Consistent Self Care Practice
Tapping helps clear the causes of financial difficulties, improves self-esteem, increases motivation and heals relationships. EFT works quickly and efficiently to help you grow, evolve and move yourself and your life forward. As with any healing modality, results are never guaranteed. Yet the success rates of EFT are beyond encouraging, often working where nothing else has. Tapping offers the chance to feel light, clear, calm, optimistic, emotionally resilient and self-empowered with the ability to self-regulate at any time.
When it comes to your mental health, self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact.
